Respite
The respite program serves as a bridge for individuals and their families who are in need of temporary relief from the stress of caring for a child with serious mental illness. In home respite ranges from 1 to 10 hours a day and out of home respite includes up to 12 nights every three months depending on the needs of the child and family. This interval of rest enables parents/caregivers to refuel, replenish and restore their energy and resources to parent children with special needs. Our homes are licensed by DHR with criminal background, medical clearance and safety checks. All respite parents complete specialized training to care for children with special needs. The individuals served by Children’s Choice are from varied backgrounds and have a myriad of needs. Young people with mental illness ages 3-17 are referred from parents, caregivers, educators, mental health care providers and all the County agencies.
Foster Care
"TFC" is similar to Family Foster Care, except that it involves taking in a child who exhibits more severe behaviors and has some kind of counseling, treatment, or other additional support system in place.
Advocacy & Support Groups
In conjunction with respite services, our Salisbury location facilitates family support groups. The group consists of respite parents, caregivers and children receiving respite services as well as families with children just looking for support and guidance.
Psychiatric Rehabilitation
Our Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program is licensed by DHMH and helps children ages 4 to 17 who have special needs related to mental health diagnoses. PRP helps the individual live in their own home and community, strengthening their social and independent living skills while learning to function in a family. The worker assigns functions as a coach and mentor.
Licensing & Monitoring
Contracted by Children and Families Service Agency, Children’s Choice provides licensure of foster homes in Maryland to children in need of placement through Washington D.C. Operating under our Maryland license as a Child Placement Agency in Maryland, children in need of foster, kinship or adoptive placement are referred to our program by CFSA.
